Soft Leaves is de ontroerende en persoonlijke debuutfilm van Miwako Van Weyenberg. Een intiem coming of age-verhaal van een Japans-Belgisch meisje op zoek naar identiteit en erkenning.
Yuna (Lill Berteloot) woont samen met haar vader Julien (Geert Van Rampelberg), een coach in het hoogspringen waar ze het goed mee kan vinden. Wanneer Julien ernstig ten val komt en in het ziekenhuis belandt, staat Yuna er alleen voor met haar oudere broer Kai. Hun leefwereld komt onder druk te staan als hun Japanse moeder en halfzusje naar België komen om voor hen te zorgen.
Soft Leaves baadt in zorgvuldig gekozen warme kleuren en wordt gedragen door de sterke vertolking van nieuw talent Lill Berteloot. De film ging in wereldpremière op het Internationaal Filmfestival van Rotterdam en werd geselecteerd voor het Filmfestival van Oostende.
