From the clash of ideas, light is born, so it goes. And clash this concert does. What does a grand piano sound like when it crashes into a concrete floor from a height of 7 metres? With that big bang of splinters and unpolished sound, Simon Steen-Andersen's 'Piano Concerto' begins. Then, in 'San Francisco Polyphony', Ligeti brilliantly makes short work of his own writing for orchestra. Mauro Hertig closes with new work in which the paradoxes of Alice's Wonderland are not far away. Yes, it can be uncomfortably abrasive.
