Ictus presents the Belgian premiere of '1979' by Joanna Bailie
What if sound were not fleeting, but kept bouncing back and forth like an echo that grows softer but never completely disappears? Salomo Friedlaender explored this idea in 'Goethe spricht in den Phonographen' (1916). His short story inspired Joanna Bailie for '1979': in one long auditory timelapse she unravels a tangle of decades of sound. 'Roll Call' is a melancholic counterpart, born from the thoughts awakened by a school photo from 1946.
