In 1990, American composer Julius Eastman died an inglorious death. Twenty years earlier, he was one of the figureheads of New York's downtown music scene and his ground-breaking and often provocative compositions ushered in post-minimalism. As a black gay man, Eastman made his life the subject of his art. Pianist and Eastman connoisseur Daan Vandewalle was commissioned by DE SINGEL to create a full-evening spectacle as a tribute to this genius composer. He is joined by flutist Petr Kotik and pianist Joe Kubera - both friends of Eastman in the 1970s -, soprano Lieselot De Wilde, countertenor Arturo den Hertog, pianist Djuwa Mroivili and members of the legendary S.E.M Ensemble from New York.
