As the chill of a new season sets in, get your body shaking in sticky new ways. Fall into new movements, new lineups and new stories. Whether it's transporting to another jazzy musical dimension or hearing poetry between the rhythms on the dancefloor, Democrazy has 5 musical shows that are sure to be catalysts for where your night of discoveries begins.

Lefto Early Bird

28.09.2024

In a concoction of art, dance and music, Lefto Early Bird presents a dance performance set to a musical landscape of their creation. With more than 50 evenings at Democrazy under their belt, Lefto’s Motherless Father (in Movement), is set to a distinct sound bordering on the edge of jazz and the spiritual, unlike anything you may have heard before. This collaboration between musicality and movement is continued in the evening's line-up with infectious mixes of samba, funk, and cumbia from Leuven trio Bruno x Soet x Moene and Coco Maria, which will inevitably invite you to also be a part of the movement in the night.

Butternut

25.10.2024

With an aim to bring a new kind of techno to our ears, Butternut is back and they’re bringing the spice for the season. Ampe and Keyser, co-founders of Butternut, bring an audacious combination of figures alongside their best tracks for the evening. Baraka, an up-and-coming French duo is set to make this a cinematic experience. With acid tones, dreamy vocals and poetic prowess, they will have you transported to a whole new planet of punk. Adjacently, Loek Frey brings a contrasting combination of techno beats that draw you right into his musical world. Let these productions be the catalysts for the nights’ stories that are still to unfold.

Moor Mother + Sun Ra Arkestra

29.10.2024

In a cosmic occurrence, this double-bill showcases an ethereal soundscape with, as stated by Pitchfork, 'the poet of the apocalypse' Moor Mother and the continuation of Sun Ra’s legacy. Moor Mother is a multi-hyphenate, linking the multitudes of history to the present as a statement for the future. Afrofuturism is used as a narrative tool enveloped in sounds of hip-hop and jazz. This is a sound that deeply nourishes the soul through the blend of blues and soaring vocals. It will be followed by the jazz ensemble led by Marshall Allen and Knoel Scott, which sustains the legacy of avant-garde jazz and free improvisation of the composer and poet, Sun Ra.

Quỳnh: Lena Willikens + Emily Jeanne + Erykah

02.11.2024

Quỳnh is the first iteration of a night curated by Emily Jeanne. We are served a multi-layered line-up that brings dimension to the dancefloor. With artist Lena Willikens, nothing is certain except the range of anomalous and raw atmospheres that will encircle you. Alongside her is Erykah, a Ghent-based DJ who brings beat-breaking and jungle sounds to an arrhythmic forefront. Caretaker of the night, Emily Jeanne grips both the innermost and outer edges of electronic music, leading to a juxtaposition of fragmented rhythms and dance floor beats that come to life inside of you.

Meltheads

06.11.2024

Meltheads bring the energy to the stage as if it’s their last time performing. With their recent debut album Decent Sex, these four Antwerpians emit a contagious garage, post-punk sound reminiscent of The Chats, Amyl and the Sniffers, and De Brassers. This tight rhythm section of punky guitar and fired-up drums will leave nothing of their audience. Continuing the punk rock atmosphere is Maria Iskariot - providing a dose of hopeful hopelessness about what it means to grow up.
