They say a zebra can't change its stripes, so it should come as no surprise that Zebrastraat in Ghent has once again curated a vibrant and colourful lineup of free concerts on Thursday evenings. Gather your friends, leave those midweek woes behind and enjoy live music bouncing off the pastel pink walls of the XYZ Lounge. Spoiled for choice? We’ve highlighted a few of our favourite artists below.

Brines

21.03.2024

Brines, you ask? Emerging from the picturesque coastal town of Knokke-Heist, the band's name—a combination of salt and water—shouldn’t catch you off guard. But don't be misled, for the musical fusion of Justine Rotsaert and Dave Lantsoght is sparkling and boiling with energy. It unfolds as an electrifying blend of electronic pop, featuring scorching guitars, bold beats and sultry vocals. Their primary mission is to ignite the dance floor and get you moving on your feet.

Big Adviser

09.05.2024

This brainchild of producer and singer-songwriter Stan den Heijer was born from spontaneous guitar riffs, synth spells, and sampler wizardry in his studio. Hovering somewhere between folktronica and experimental pop, his songs tell honest and worn-out tales, as if you stumbled upon them amidst long-lost treasures in the attic. Live, he is accompanied by skilled musicians Danzel Hoever (drums: Joogie Toogie, Amazumi, Joni Sheila), Tim Pensaert (bass: Meltheads), Dave Lantsoght (guitar: Brines, OSKI, Alrick) and Simon Moortgat (keys, synths, strings: Heder).

Itches

16.05.2024

Self-proclaimed creators of 'Rammel Jangle Carapunk’, this Belgian trio has been on an unrestrained rampage since 2020. Infusing their sound with the essence of cheap canned alcoholic indulgence, they concoct a wild mix of garage pop, 60s freakbeat, psychy grotesque, primal punk, and, above all, hefty jangle. During their “Pub Brawler” tour in 2023, they hit as many sweaty dive bars as possible. Now, they’re back, ready for another round. Highly recommended for fans of Black Lips, Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall.

LIGHTSPEED

30.05.2024

These freshly crowned laureates of the third edition of Sound Track were praised by the judges for their high-quality, layered songs and excellent atmospheric guitar work. Had they been born in the UK, they might as well have been the opening act for the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Babyshambles or other Britpop icons. Expect a melodic journey filled with catchy choruses, powerful indie guitars, and a live energy that resonates to your very core.
