How do you build a new life when you are born without opportunities? How do you imagine a different life, break the cycle of violence and - despite everything - embrace your own future?
A shelter in Colombia's capital Bogotá is home to teenage girls who are no longer safe at home, or have no home at all. They all struggle with a violent past from which they have clearly been scarred. The filmmakers task them with sharing their stories with an imaginary friend, Alis.
Alis is not a happy film, but between the harrowing testimonies, poetic images of the girls' daily lives are also edited in. Fun, music and dance are also an integral part of this. Through the dark clouds, hope for a better life breaks through.
