In Heaven #1

18.10.2024

Bringing together an original blend of musicalities, In Heaven #1 is a night of debuts. Presenting us with her third album The Hollow, singer and composer Keeley Forsyth conveys to us the tales of life’s contradictions through a singular, raw vocal delivery, surrounded by sparse musical arrangements. In a similar vein, sound artist Bert Cools introduces the night to a new live show conceived along with Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė of the Lithuanian Merope collective and Kjartan Sveinsson, the composer and keyboardist of Sigur Rós. The evening ends on a melancholic note, with the acoustic and electronic blend of the collective Minua.

In Heaven #2

14.11.2024

In Heaven #2 creates yet another evening of musical oasis, with two album releases from genre-bending New York based artists, in case you were left craving for more. Casting aside the notions of what classical piano compositions should entail, Kelly Moran is a sought-after composer, working with the likes of FKA Twigs and Kelsey Lu. As a solo artist, she creates a unique atmosphere of supernal textures and avant-garde compositional arcs. Alongside her on the evening’s bill is Ganavya. A talented multi-instrumentalist and wordsmith, her sound is one of intertwined traditions; taking you on a musical journey of spiritual jazz and South Asian influences.

Space is the Place

13.12.2024

With a focus on improvisation and the cross-pollination of genres and disciplines, this Amsterdam-based platform comes to Leuven, showcasing the musical stylings of Farida Amadou and Ruidoscuro. As a quartet, Frank Rosaly’s Ruidoscuro creates complex reflections of indigenous instruments through composition. With both strict sequences and uninhibited improvisation, a trance-like atmosphere pulls you in. The double bill is complete with Farida Amadou. As a self-taught, Brussels-based musician, her use of the electric bass without rigidity creates an organic space that rides the line between free jazz and pure sound generation.

Scapegoat

16.11.2024

Through a wordless performance, director Ferenc Balcaen transports you to an inferno reminiscent of Dante’s Divine Comedy. Here, the days bleed into nights, leaving no room for the discernment of time. It is in this landscape that Scapegoat erupts, a dance of dehumanized figures driven by despair and violence. Balcaen creates an alternate world where these scapegoats give in to the most absurd of desires, allowing for your own introspection of what it means to be compassionate and human.

Trigger warning: This performance contains nudity and scenes that can be read as violent.

GRUIS/aan de twijfel

21.11.2024

Through author Willem Frederik Hermans's novels, GRUIS/aan de twijfel immerses us in a nihilistic world that serves as a further exploration of human isolation from the collective Werktoneel. A reality so teeming with the banalities of everyday life that it has turned into incomprehensible chaos, this universe draws you in making madness tangible. Underpinned by the soundscape of radio shows that fill the empty space of lonely hours, we’re presented with a critique of humanity’s optimism in the face of progress.
